Product Owner IAM
Lead and grow a brilliant Java engineering team delivering products across authentication, identity and signing.
Be part of Clavister's journey to secure the digital world. We are looking for a Product Owner with the leadership, product thinking and technical judgement to help a skilled team perform at its best. You will lead a cross-functional Java development team responsible for products across authentication, identity management and digital signing, turning customer needs, business priorities and technical direction into clear outcomes for the team.
Working closely with the Product Manager, you will actively contribute to the product vision and roadmap for our IAM portfolio. The Product Manager owns that direction; you make it actionable by owning the team backlog, creating clarity and guiding delivery. You will be supported by experienced stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Architecture and Security.
About Clavister
Clavister is a European cybersecurity company founded in 1997 and headquartered in Örnsköldsvik. We develop cybersecurity solutions across network security, identity and access management, cloud security, machine learning and AI.
Our solutions support customers in the public sector, critical infrastructure, defence and telecommunications. Together with our partners and distributors, Clavister hardware and software are deployed in more than 100 countries.
The role
This role brings product ownership, people leadership and engineering delivery together. Your ability to lead, create focus, develop people and build an effective team is more important than being an IAM specialist.
You should be comfortable working in the IAM domain, learning its concepts and discussing Java or a comparable enterprise backend ecosystem, as well as architecture, integrations, quality and engineering trade-offs with developers, architects and product stakeholders.
The portfolio spans established on-premises products with multiple supported versions as well as SaaS offerings, requiring sound judgement when balancing product development and technical debt.
Key responsibilities
Lead and develop a cross-functional Java product team, with responsibility for people leadership, competence development, team effectiveness and delivery practices, including constructive feedback and support for learning and professional development.
Actively contribute customer, delivery and team perspectives to the product vision and roadmap owned by the Product Manager.
Own and prioritise the team backlog in line with the agreed product direction, customer needs, security requirements and available capacity.
Translate roadmap objectives into clear outcomes, requirements and acceptance criteria for authentication, identity and signing products.
Work with Java engineers, architects and IAM domain stakeholders on system design, APIs, integrations and architectural evolution.
Balance new capabilities and technical debt with cybersecurity, privacy, trust, quality, usability, scalability and long-term maintainability.
Drive delivery from refinement and planning through development, automated testing and operational follow-up.
Promote modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevOps, observability, code review and test automation.
Recruit, coach and mentor team members, creating an environment where people feel trusted and supported, are comfortable asking questions and challenging ideas, and actively share and preserve critical knowledge.
Coordinate dependencies, risks and expectations across Product, Technology, Architecture, Security and other stakeholders, drawing on their IAM expertise when needed.
What success looks like in this role
The team understands what to deliver, why it matters and how success will be measured.
Product and roadmap priorities are translated into a clear, realistic and well-managed backlog.
The team delivers secure, reliable and maintainable Java-based products with predictable quality and flow.
Product, engineering, security and IAM domain decisions are made collaboratively, with the right specialists involved and clear ownership maintained.
Team members grow, take responsibility and contribute to a healthy engineering culture.
To thrive in this role we believe you have
Proven experience leading and developing commercial product software teams, with a strong focus on people, performance, collaboration and delivery.
Experience with product ownership, backlog management and agile delivery for software products.
A hands-on background in software engineering or architecture.
Enough technical understanding to engage confidently with Java developers and architects, supported by experience from Java or a comparable enterprise backend ecosystem.
Experience collaborating with Product Managers and multiple stakeholders on product discovery, priorities, vision and roadmap development.
Comfort working in the IAM domain and the curiosity to learn authentication, identity and signing concepts with support from domain specialists.
Knowledge of secure software development, privacy and vulnerability management.
Strong communication, coaching, stakeholder management, problem-solving and change leadership skills.
Fluent English, both written and spoken.
Extra points for
Previous experience from identity and access management, authentication, digital identity or electronic signing.
Familiarity with IAM integrations, APIs, federation, identity lifecycle processes or trust services.
A background in software engineering or architecture in Java, or a comparable enterprise backend ecosystem.
Experience as a Scrum Master or in a similar role facilitating agile software teams.
What we offer
Meaningful work in a European cybersecurity company where IAM is a key component of zero-trust security and our products help organisations protect identities, control access and enable trusted digital interactions.
The opportunity to lead and develop a brilliant Java engineering team delivering products across authentication, identity and signing.
A collaborative and inclusive environment with close cooperation across Product, Technology and Security.
Professional development, training and opportunities to grow your leadership career.
Flexible working arrangements and a supportive team culture.
Competitive salary and benefits.

About Clavister
Scandinavia and Sweden have – over the course of the last ten years – become one of the hottest and most successful tech corridors in the world. In 2015, Sweden became the second most prolific tech hub in the world on a per capita basis, producing USD6.3bn in value per million people, compared to Silicon Valley’s USD8.1bn, according to a recent report from the investment firm Atomico. It’s a salute to Sweden’s innovation and tech savvy.
Clavister, a Latin word meaning ‘Key holder’ came together by a union of chance in an unlikely Swedish place. Örnsköldsvik, located between Stockholm and the Arctic Circle, is blessed with natural beauty. But more importantly, it’s powered by an excellent university in Umeå that feeds its knowledge waters as well as an entrepreneurial spirit born of creating value and wealth from modest means.
Entrepreneur Peter Johansson, who had founded an early Internet company, EnterNet Sweden HB in 1995. As it grew, the need for more equipment – namely a secure router – became mission critical. Johansson had joined forces with another software entrepreneur, John Vestberg, who, together with talented software engineer Mikael Olsson, quickly set about solving problem. Together, they’d create a secure and fast router, something that took larger companies teams of staff and budget to achieve. In fact, they were developing an actual product that could be offered to the market, a device and code that could take on the security aspects of an always on Internet connection. It was an idea that could be sold to the world. Clavister AB was born in 2001 as EnterNet AB became the the new company, founded by Johansson and co-founded by Vestberg, ready to see how far their ambitions could go.
By 2002–2003 they launched their first physical appliance, a highly regarded firewall device that performed well in test after test. By 2008 the first virtual gateway was released, another critical technological milestone. Clavister’s reputation grew and European markets started to hunger for their products and services. Soon Asian offices were added. The development of their own, proprietary software – first cOS core and later its cOS stream solution – made the product into an award winning and industry respected leader in cybersecurity and digital threat deterrence. Investment and growth have helped put Clavister create an installed base of 20,000 customers with a 95% satisfaction rate and propelled it to be one of the few Swedish technology companies to be listed on the NASDAQ OMX Nordic exchange. It’s also achieved a formidable client list that includes Nokia, Canon, D-Link as well as collaborations with Intel, Redhat, VMware and others. It’s an almost 20 year history that has led to Clavister to its present market position, a leader in virtual security with an eye to the future.
